What We Do

Our 5-Step Artist Pathway

From playlists to stages, from tapes to vinyl - we support artists step by step, on their own terms.

1. Discover together

We're always digging for fresh sounds and share what we find in our quarterly New Music Playlists. It's our way of celebrating the artists who inspire us and introducing them to our community.

  • Search for the Whanga Records playlists on Spotify.

2. Play Live

From those playlists, we invite artists to perform at our home venues: McQ's in Dunfermline and Islington Arts Club in London. These shows are about building connections - between artists, fans and the wider music community. And also just about enjoying the best new music live. Something we all love to do.

  • Check out our upcoming gigs in the events tab and also on our socials.

3. Make Something Unique

A few artists will be offered the chance to create exclusive cassettes - whether that's acoustic reworks, intimate home recordings or live sessions. These tapes are special because they are only available in physical form, never on streaming platforms (see step 4). It's about giving fans something collectable and truly one of a kind. We will also produce unique merch.

  • Birrell or Biscuit - Songs in the Key of Trevor is a beautiful cassette tape release of demos and intimate home recordings. Release date 7/11/25 from our Merch Store.

  • Birrell or Biscuit Demon's artwork was produced by Ian Barrett (nephew of Pink Floyd's Syd) and signed copies are available in the Merch Store.

4. Stay Independent, With Our Support

We believe artists should own their music and release their streaming content themselves. That way, you stay in control and keep 100% of the royalties. We'll back you with promo and marketing support to help your songs reach more ears, without taking away your independance.

  • Birrell or Biscuit track Demons hit 5 figure streaming numbers in the first week. Barry Sutton from The La's played guitar on the track.

5. Celebrate With Vinyl

For artists who thrive along the way, we'll work together on a full length vinyl LP - a milestone release that marks a special moment in your journey and in our community.

  • TwinsTown's Brankholm Brae was Whanga Records first vinyl release. You can pick one up in the Merch Store.
